At the beginning of the 20th century, the Saimaza coffee brand stars. Mr Joaquin Sainz de la Maza founded it in Seville. Mr Joaquín, a member of a family with great roots in the city, opens a shop in the Center. It is the germ of the Sevillian coffee empire.
After World War I everything smiles at the Sainz de la Maza family. By this time Joaquín, the founder, becomes the third largest importer of coffee in Spain. The second generation of the company takes control in 1937. At the same time the company becomes a Public Limited Company.
The 80s suppose big advances for Saimaza company , which also have its reflex in Seville. Not in vain it is where the company was born and from which its proprietors were from. In 1982 they construct the factory of Seville (located in Dos Hermanas), of which they say that it is «one of the most modern and advanced posts of Europe». On the following year they sign the constitution of a society with multinational General Food Corporation. The mark becomes global and this year invoices 90 million euros.
The XXIst century does not take suddenly Saimaza and from its plant of Seville and the rest of the facilities of the group throws new products to satisfy to the market. The market becomes more competitive and it is required to innovate. Coffees monodose for espresso coffee makers or Tassimo three cups.
At the end of April of this year it jumps the news: Saimaza closes its facilities in Seville. Born in the city and with strong Andalusian roots, with the slamming to the plant of Dos Hermanas the mark comes undone of its origin place and moves to Italy. The expliación of the multinational after the coffee Saimaza is in the change of the market caused by the «growth of the segment of monodose, and that has worsened for the current economic situation of the country». The city says this way to more than 100 years of history of a Sevillian company.
